Maja Vasilijević, Founder of Eco Horizon, is a Geographer, with M.A. awarded by the University of Melbourne, Australia. She holds vast international experience in nature conservation. Maja is a longstanding member of the IUCN’s World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA), and former Chair and current Vice Chair of IUCN WCPA’s Transboundary Conservation Specialist Group, the largest global voluntary network of transboundary conservation experts.
Maja has been cooperating with many distinguished institutions, including IUCN, WWF, UNDP, ICIMOD, EASME, German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, Southern African Development Community, Korea National Parks Service, Peace Parks Foundation, and the University of Montana. She holds a strong record of project development and management, and multi-country programme evaluation and monitoring. She has been the evaluator of projects submitted for funding by the EU nature conservation and interregional cooperation advancement programmes, LIFE and INTERREG.
Previously, Maja was working for IUCN Secretariat on World Heritage monitoring, after which she supported the establishment of IUCN Programme Office for South-Eastern Europe (current IUCN ECARO), where she was working on reinforcement of regional cooperation between nature conservation institutions and capacity building. She authored a number of IUCN’s publications, including Transboundary Conservation: A systematic and integrated approach (2015), published within the renowned IUCN WCPA Best Practice Protected Area Guidelines series. Maja holds broad experience in planning and facilitation of conservation-related events and trainings, and continues to expand her knowledge and experience by cooperating with extensive international network of professional associates and partners.
